Q

‘WHAT ARE WORDS?’

Q is for QUIT{to leave, to give up and stop doing something}

I’m trying hard not to QUIT A to Z. I do appreciate so many of your well wishes to get better QUICK and your kind words in the comment box, not to mention all the new followers. It turns out I’m sicker than I thought – not the flu –I have a Strep A infection that has settled in my right arm (at an old surgery site). Arm is red, swollen and on fire, from midway between my wrist and elbow to my shoulder. I have meds, but they are making me sick and sleepy. The last few posts for some of the ‘harder’ words are not written yet, so who knows what you will get. BUT, I’m not going to QUIT, I’ll keep trying, if you guys will bear with me.

  1. Well...you certainly have a good reason to quit. I didn't start because I was afraid I'd quit halfway through. It's an ambitious undertaking I don't have time for in the spring. Get well soon!!!!

  11. You best not quit! We're on the home stretch. Although, what you're going through sounds horrid. I hope you feel better soon, and way to stay positive!

  12. Oh, that's awful. Take care of that because those Strep infections can be very dangerous, but I'm sure you know that. I have to admire your stick-to-it-tiveness.

  13. If you're really sick and don't feel like playing anymore, I think you should quit. I know I would. (I know I DID!)

I have a great deal of admiration for quitters. As the old Kenny Rogers song goes: "You got to know when to fold 'em; know when to walk away, and know when to run".

    I'm praying that you quit.

Nah, not really. I'm praying that you feel better and get better so you don't want to or have to quit.

But in all honesty, quitting is only a bad thing when it's truly important that a person, instead, completes the thing they're quitting. It's all relative. I mean, if you started eating some okra casserole and 3 or 4 bites into it you realized you disliked it, wouldn't you quit eating it?

When I was younger, I too was all hung up on the "Don't be a quitter" thing. My Ma raised me to be that way. But when I got older and started really thinking for myself, I realized that although I learned a lot of valuable stuffs from my Ma, that was not one them.

It used to be that if I started reading a book, I would force myself to finish it, no matter how much I wasn't enjoying the story.

Later, I came to realize that God has given me only so much time on this planet, meaning I would only be able to read just so many books. So, why should I waste time reading something I don't like and risk not having enough time to get to all the books I will love?

The last book I quit reading in the middle of was 'Lolita'.

The last movie I quit watching in the middle of was 'The Pianist'.

I don't think quitting is ALWAYS a bad thing. The real question is: How IMPORTANT was it that we should have completed what it was that we quit?

So, know, Nitro, if you get so sick that finishing "A To Z" becomes a real burden for you, you can quit and you'll NEVER hear a discouraging word from me.

I think "A To Z" is meant to be "FUN", NOT a "CHORE" that a person feeling ill must struggle through.

  15. Wishing you well soon, fighting infection is draining. Do what you can, when you can.

You probably need rest the most. Healing takes energy, too.

I'm just getting around to some of the regular blogs in between the new ones. Good luck kicking that bug.

  17. Get well soon - we got sick around the same time, and I'm still sick too. But it's still sinus (but now chest too).

Yuck. We need some magical healing!

  18. Oh my dear! You must take care of yourself. And if it means not continuing the challenge, it will not be because you quit, it will be because your health is more important.

    Take care of yourself.
